Day 134: Windows, Fireplace and Electrical Boxes

Oops! We met another neighbor, got visiting and it was raining so I only got the right side of the house today!

They got lots done yesterday and possibly part of today.
All the upstairs windows are installed. They waited on the basement ones because the window wells are the only way to get down there right now. ;) Hopefully that changes this week.
Then, they got our fireplace in!!!!! Amazing! They still have to add benches on each side but it's gonna be AWESOME!

That brings me to the view out the back windows of our home. TO. DIE. FOR!!!!!! These pictures don't do it justice.

They added the pieces (on each side of the room) to the trusses so that they can eventually drywall up to the vaulted ceilings.

They drilled the holes for the plumbing to my kitchen bar. They had to move it out because of the duct-work downstairs so I will be having TONS of space between cupboards and the island. Which eats into the walking area between the kitchen and the living room. Kind of a bummer because I feel like it's wasted space but it is what it is! If we built this house again we'd resituate the utility room so we could make things fit better.

They installed all the electrical boxes. We are excited about the amount and placement of them. We do have to add one for my glass case by the upstairs bathroom, move/remove the ones that will be hidden by the fireplace benches and see if they can put the thermometer on a different wall. But we love seeing things get done quickly. They also installed the boxes for my bathroom fan/lights and the boxes for the bedroom lights.

We did find out that the big black flex piping (and the silver one downstairs pictured below) that go out the roof are the piping for our bath fans. Cool beans!

Last but not least- Scott moved my (Shay) showerhead down so that I actually get some water pressure on my head. Brett's is at 7 feet, mine is at 6 feet. 

Day 133: Windows

HOLY Busy General Contractor Day! (And by general contractor- I mean me!!! ;) I left my house at 8 o'clock this morning and got back just in time to pick up the kids from school. I ran a couple Church errands as well. But for the most part, I was picking up stuff for the house from different places, calling sub-contractors, ordering a water heater, checking to make sure things are ordered from PowerTownsend, matching paint to my cupboards for the beadboard for the bar and delivering all of it out to Faith Lane along with treats for the workers. Whew! Hope I'm getting paid what I'm worth. WHAT? I'm not getting paid! What a rip off! LOL
I AM excited that things are starting to move though.

Today they are putting in windows. So beautiful! Tomorrow I should be able to take a picture of my dining room view! Gorgeous!

They got the fireplace delivered and are were working on the framing to get it in the wall. Yeah!

Here's the back roof now that they have those flex pipes and vents in.

Chuck said they should be cutting the stair hole on Monday or Tuesday. Then things should really be busy after that. People will pretty much be stepping on each others toes. BUT hey- get 'er done, I say!

Water Heater- Check!

We have a friend that works at MDM Supply. He pointed us in the right direction and we finally decided on a water heater. We went with the Bradford White TTW1 50-gallon Power-vent Natural GAS Water Heater. I hope it works well for us!

Day 132: Flexible Ductwork and Lost Closet

They got some flexible duct work done upstairs. Added a couple more holes to the side of the house.

They moved the vent for us in the den so our piano doesn't cover it.

Liberty got to see her room framed. She is way happy because now she says it doesn't look as small as she thought it would.

Here's our Utility Room. They have to use the whole space so I lost my hallway linen closet. That's a little irritating but I totally can see why they need the whole space. Now I need to figure out where else I could stick a linen closet down there. I NEED closets!!!

One option for a linen closet would be to divide up our big playroom closet. Here's a picture of what that closet looks like right now- the small room (LOL) right in front. The playroom is in the back right corner. I will probably try to meet with Chuck tomorrow and see what we can work out.

We had some irritated people out on Faith Lane today. I guess the electrician is on a big job and is pushing us off. Chuck was not a happy camper. Then the plumber says he needs my drain kits for the tubs. Which I told him I was only getting the trim kit and he'd have to get the pipes separately. Isn't communication lovely? We also have to figure out our water heater situation and get it to them A.S.A.P. Although that makes me laugh because I don't know how they think they would get it down there since the stairs aren't done yet and I still have a bathtub in my living room. ;) I think it's just their way of making it feel like we are the ones holding up the project. ;) Oh my! Isn't building fun?!

Day 131: Roof Cover and Duct Work

A protective cover was put on the roof today. Hopefully, it will start letting the basement dry out completely before they really start working down there.

Ray and Jason got the wall between the den and the kitchen moved over so that wall can be taller to meet up with the vaulted ceiling.

They took the braces down so you can see how open our living room will be. This is taken from the corner of the kitchen. The marks on the floor are where the kitchen bar will be. The big hole in the wall between the windows is where the fireplace is going. Do you like our tub in living room? You can get clean and sit by the fire all at the same time. LOL

Now to the downstairs-

They framed Justice's room. I'm standing in Liberty's room for this picture.

The bathroom is framed.

And they got a lot of the duct work done. The only thing we need to see if we can get fixed is the vent that is in the den that is right under where our piano will be. Dang! But I'm excited they have been working so hard.

Siding and Roof Colors- Check!

Here's what we picked out for the outside of our home. It will look so sharp with our red doors. Wahoo!

Siding- Granite 

Roof- Charcoal Grey

Trim and Windows- white

Back Deck- Traditional Cape Cod Gray

Day 130: Front Sheathing

They finished the sheathing in the front today. They still have to make my 2 gables in the front and the roof part over the nook but it finally looks like a house. Wahoo!

We met Chuck out on Faith Lane today to chat about the kitchen island and the light switch placement. It's fun to see the process and help pick those things out. We are having a tiny bit of an issue with the island because of the duct work that is running under the floor just beneath it. We have to get water up into the island and not mess with the duct work. So... we may have to move it out a little further. Either way- my kitchen is big and gorgeous! So excited! I also noticed that the Plumber has protected all the studs with pipes in them with these metal pieces. Pretty smart and snazzy.

They put up the door frame for my den. My 10-lite french doors will swing open. I love it there! Unfortunately, the roof truss guy messed up a bit and the truss above that wall is not lining up. (You can see it in the pic below) After discussing it with Chuck, we decided that the framers will just move that whole wall over the 2.5"- making the den and the hallway to the laundry room a bit bigger. The other option was to cut out part of the roof and move it over. That would be a pain!

Here's the backside wall of the plumbing for the upstairs tub/showers. I like that most of them back up to a closet. That makes it easier to fix if you need to get to them in the future.

They were framing part of the basement when we left. And I dropped off the fan lights for them to get the boxes installed tomorrow. I love the progress!

Day 129: Memorial Day

Happy Holiday! Brett, Victoria and Justice went out to ride the go-kart today. They luv it!

Day 128: Tubs Installed

It looks like while we were gone....
They got a little more done on the front roof.
Also the Plumber installed our master shower and the upstairs tub. The other tub is sitting in the front room because they haven't got the stairs in and it won't fit in the window well. LOL
Plus, he worked on a lot of pipes that go through the roof. Oh and he put in the water pipe for the fridge in the kitchen.

Day 127: Cabin Instead

We gave up on our house on Faith Lane ever getting done and moved in here instead. ;)

Day 126: Some of Front Sheathing

We drove by quickly before we left town for the weekend. They were working on the front roof sheathing. Pretty fun!

Day 125: More pipes & Dirt Family

They finished up the sheathing on the backside of the house today.
